Overview
Our programs follow these principles:
Shared Context - participants will have a similar operating environment.
Fully Applicable - Programs include “experiential learning” and “action learning” components, as well as inter-session tasks, to ensure alignment between curriculum and context.
Accessible & Interactive - The main components of each program are “live” virtual sessions.
-
This program supports Clinically Trained Professionals who are in Director or Care or other Leadership roles in Long-term care.
Running since 2012, this program takes participants through a three-month curriculum with a focus on collaboration with other partners in the health care environment, as well as more immediate stakeholders.
-
Over 8 weeks, this program takes Board members through four 90-minute sessions to orient them on the fundamentals of group collaboration toward decisions that drive impact in the cause-driven organizations
CLINICAL LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
We are pleased and proud to be continuing to offer an Executive Leadership program for Clinical Leaders operating in the Long-term Care context across Canada.
If you are familiar with this program (as an alumnus, as an alumnus sponsor/employer, as a supporter, etc.) you may be aware that we were previously affiliated with York University, Faculty of Health, and have transitioned to a Sector-centric Program with support from strong industry partners. The program fundamentals are unchanged, and we have made some exciting augmentations.
This is a program for Directors of Care or other Clinical Leaders in the LTC context. Participants must have sufficient sphere of responsibility to complete an Action Learning Project.
Please contact operations@measureofsuccess.ca for information on applying for this or future intakes (e.g. Fall 2026).
Course Fee: $3800, plus HST
Program Breakdown
-
Overview: We position the Clinical Leader as one important individual (with limited time and energy) within a complex environment. We build an appreciation for ambiguity in dealing with many, but not all, of their challenges.
Given the leadership shift from “doing the work” to “creating an environment where others perform” we focus on collaboration and on methods to influence a system.
Intersessional activity: 1-on-1 coaching re: Kolbe report & Action Learning Projects
-
Overview: Using a continuous improvement approach to quality, we introduce tools and orientations to positively impact the care environment using critical thinking.
This includes, but is not restricted to, clinical outcomes. We address the necessity to “do more with less” while maintaining necessary clinical standards. This thinking informs the Action Learning Project description and implementation plan.
Intersessional activity: Work on Action Learning Project; Team check-ins
-
Overview: We revisit the insights from the Kolbe instrument and use these to heighten self-awareness in engaging with colleagues, residents and family members.
Using tailored scenarios and real actors, we recreate common workplace challenges in simulations, which are followed by debrief and discussion with peers.
-
Action Learning Project presentation to fellow participants where participants share the original focus for their project and how the “actions” unfolded, as well as the clinical/business impact.
Participants also share reflections and learnings with respect to their personal development, their team understanding and the wider organization.
What our Graduates have to say:
-
“This program really helped me to further develop as a leader. It reinforced some of my natural tendencies, gave me new approaches to consider, and provided me with tools and insights to share with my team.”
Associate Director of Care, Long-term Care
-
“Since taking this program, I am more comfortable engaging with the conversation about metrics. This is often to provide context for a result or highlight what we need to do to change that result.”
Director of Care, Long-term Care
-
“This was a bit stressful because it was my first leadership course since coming to Canada many years ago. My style is to be very direct and I developed ways to engage with my staff that help to maintain good relations while getting my point across. It was comforting to learn that others in the program were facing the same challenges that I was.”
Director of Care, Long-term Care
-
“Great learning experience. Tested me in a way that I needed to be tested.”
Associate Director of Care, Long-term Care
-
“The actors in the simulations provided incredibly valuable perspective for us that is impossible to get through real-world experience.”
Director of Care, Long-term Care
-
“This program provided a unique opportunity to connect with and learn from other in similar roles with similar challenges.”
Director of Care, Long-term Care
BOARD MEMBER SUPPORT: STRATEGY and DECISIONS
Let’s face it: Onboarding new Board Members is hard.
We send across links to documents, but wonder if it feels like “Here is the firehose. Drink up!”
We schedule adhoc “orientation meetings,” but everyone is busy.
We say, “let us know if you have any questions,” and when we get no response wonder is it, “I am good” OR “I don’t know where to start…”
There is no substitute for time listening and learning to get up to speed, but our program brings focus to the appreciating the role and to positively impacting the Board.
Over three topic sessions, this program provides guidance on fundamentals of Board interactions:
Maintaining a strategic focus for discussions (rather than getting too operational);
Gauging and monitoring progress and performance (rather than getting too tactical); and
Enabling an environment for collaboration (rather than causing needless tension or avoiding necessary discussions).
Course Fee: $500, plus HST
Please contact operations@measureofsuccess.ca for information or to enroll.
Program Breakdown
-
Overview: Strategy and impact become very complex as we create working theories around the good we want to do, in order to resource activities that make a difference.
We use frameworks for “sensemaking” and skills for probing, not to drive consensus, but to leverage the different perspectives around the table.
Intersessional activity: Seek out the different perspectives among your Board.
-
Overview: Boards can feel stuck between “how can we EVER know our impact?” and being accused of moving the EDs goal posts.
We explore the connections between “sensemaking” and “logic models” that define impact. We reinforce evidence-based decisions and foster curiosity around creating better evidence.
Intersessional activity: Inventory of past. current and potential evidence of impact.
-
Overview: It is a massive challenge for a group of people to collectively discuss important decisions when everyone may be making sense of it in a different way.
We focus on behaviours that are conducive toe supporting this environment. This awareness helps Board members notice and model their own behaviours (rather than wishing others would “behave” or imposing a “rules of engagement.”
Inter-session activity: Inventory of behaviours from an actual meeting.
-
Participants share a diagnosis of where their Board has the most potential to MAINTAIN strong areas and IMPROVE on others.
Each participant shares areas within their sphere of influence that will help to realize this plan.
